New Chair Yoga Class at Bonita/Sunnyside County Library starts April 4 (but...)

I'm so excited to let all the local chair yoga fans know that we are FINALLY starting a library (= free) class again, in April. We will be at a completely new location to me, the Bonita/Sunnyside Branch County Library 4375 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902.

Now the (big) but....This class will replace our Monday online meeting.

Our online classes began as a replacement for the six in-person classes we had around East County. I felt terrible leaving everyone high-and-dry when the stay-at-home order began, so we started with five days a week classes.

We had huge attendance for a long while, and even occasionally some donations (thank you again). As time went by (OMIGOSH it's been two years) we found that with other activities restarting, and people either losing interest or finding other ways to fulfill their movement needs, we had dwindling attendance. That and I started taking classes myself towards my PTA program. We therefore reduced to just three days a week (M, W, F).

Mid last year,  was asked to start another in-person community class and we went down to just Mondays and Fridays.

Because my school schedule is even busier this semester, I can't add more classes, but I can "replace" like for like. Since the online class replaced an in person class, now it's a chance to bring the in person class back to replace the online class.

I know this doesn't work for EVERYONE, so I will keep Fridays for as long as my schedule allows. I am also available for private lessons at a sliding scale cost if anyone is interested in that option. There is also the library of recorded classes at the sister website BYOMOYOGAvideos.com. If you don't live locally, please check out YOUR local libraries and rec centers to see if they are offering something in person,

I am sorry that I have to schedule things thusly, but this keeps my instruction at optimal quality (otherwise I'm stressed out trying to serve too many people).

I hope you understand, and I hope you consider joining me at Bonita branch. No sign up need, but please be on time, bring any yoga accessories you'd normally use, and spread the word!

Online Resources for Yoga: Find.Yoga

We need yoga now more than ever. For the physical and mental health benefits, for boosting the immune system, to stay centered, and for the beautiful lessons in how to sit with discomfort and uncertainty and find the peace and presence in the midst of it.

Many teachers and studios have shifted to online classes; they could also use support right now. They are navigating this new landscape like all of us, and many (like me) have had their regular classes reduced or eliminated and are facing an uncertain future.

There is a new free searchable master schedule for all yoga classes and events happening online, offered by local teachers & studios.

Check it out - I have put my Chair Yoga and Kids Yoga classes on the schedule. Please share if you know anyone who could benefit from yoga & meditation, or if you know a teacher who is trying to reach more people with their offerings. I hope it can be of service. http://find.yoga

TGIF. SLDCYALGL!

Thank goodness it's Friday - so let's do yoga at he Lemon Grove Library! Our Chair Yoga class was resurrected after August hiatus at the Lemon Grove Library September 6, at the new time of 12:00 pm!

It's been slow to start so I hope with the San Diego heat finally staying below 90°F (although the library IS a Cool Zone) that folks are interested in coming out for an hour of gentle, chair-based yoga.

I have great shoulder and neck releasing stretches planned, along with core-strengtheners, hip-stabilizers, and balance-enhancing standing postures (always optional), and a lovely guided mindfulness meditation to play for our savasana (resting sequence), so I hope you'll consider joining us at 3001 School Lane, Lemon Grove, CA 91945.

Park on the street for two hours, or in the lot across the street next to the Fire Station. You can also park at the back of the library on Licoln and walk around the building to the main entrance on School. We meet in the Community Room to the left of the main doors.

International Day of Peace in La Mesa - Yoga at 9:30 AM

The Main Event

Sunday 9/17/17 is the fourth annual Day of Peace gathering organized by The Interfaith Council of La Mesa. The event takes place in Aztec Park at 7945 Morocco Drive in La Mesa.

The Interfaith Council represents all religious denominations and those who don’t have faith traditions. The event’s aim is to bring awareness to “the need to promote peace, unity and good will in both local and global communities.”

The Council event itself runs from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Different faith/spiritual/philosophical groups are gathering earlier to lead universally uplifting activities, and I am honored to be part of the "Raise the Energy in the Park" prelude to the main event.

Yoga in the Morning

Starting at 8:00 AM there will be a half hour "Prayers for Peace for All Mankind," and I will follow with TWO yoga sessions, one from 9:15-10:10, and one from 10:15-11:00.

Please bring your own blanket/yoga mat, wear sunscreen/a hat, and bring plenty of hydration. This will be gentle but eclectic hatha yoga so if you need support for your back or knees bring a cushion or a folding chair so that you feel most comfortable.

Read more about the origin of this amazing event and get more details in this article in the Union Tribune by Karen Pearlman.
