CHAIR YOGA

For all my chair yoga classes classes I offer modifications to increase and decrease intensity as requested. We aim for a good stretch, a bit of a workout, and some valuable mind-quiet time, all to help reinforce that ever important connection between your body and your mind. Participate at your appropriate level: breathe, hydrate, stay safe! Use whatever props you need to support yourself, and have water nearby.

These classes are open to all ages, all levels. They classes are gentle, combining both chair and standing postures to provide what the class needs on any given day.

Each class includes breathing practices (pranayama), postures (asana) rooted in functional movement, yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology information, and of course relaxation (savasana) and meditation. They incorporate flexibility exercises that can improve posture, increase the range of motion around joints, and improve agility and gait. Muscular strength exercises can slow the cellular aging process, and improve muscle mass to increase an overall sense of vitality and improve balance and coordination.

You will need a link and password to join. Download this waiver. Either print it and sign, then take a picture, or digitally sign the PDF. Then send the waiver (or agree to the terms) and a little bit about your interest in our class to to byomyoga@gmail.com as your registration. Classes are free (donations are accepted but never required), and the link to join is the same for every class.

  • These classes are done in chairs. Have your chair on a non-slip surface.
  • Please log in by 10:55 AM to give yourself a few minutes to set up your screen and get situated. 
  • You do not have to have your video enabled (I don't have to see you, you just probably want to see me).
  • We will start promptly at 11:00 AM. 
  • I'll put attendees on mute once the class officially starts (there is a chat function by which you can ask questions). 
  • If you are unable to join by 11:00 AM, I do a hydration break at about 15 to 20 minutes in, and will admit late-comers at that time. 

Chair Yoga at the Cuyamaca College Water Conservation Garden

Thursdays Weekly 9:15-10:15 AM

Membership to the garden is required (or pay a drop-in rate). (Membership gives you access to all the other yoga classes and special events at this garden plus reciprocal membership to over 300 gardens around the country including our own San Diego Botanic Garden!)
  • Chair are provided; please bring a mat for your feet as we usually meet outside in the Butterfly Amphitheater. On overly warm days we meet in the new Education Center.
  • Bring water/hydration. 
  • Wear tie shoes if you do not plan on removing your shoes; flip flops or open back shoes are not secure enough for our practice.
Check my online calendar for updates and changes to be sure class is meeting that week, and/or your email. You can also call the garden if there are any weather or holiday concerns. 

Chair Yoga at the Park De La Cruz Rec Center (San Diego AgeWell Services)

Fridays 12:45-1:45PM in 8 week class packs

Third session starts May 20. Yoga chair classes are gentle, combining both chair and standing postures to incorporate both flexibility and muscular strengthening. Chair Yoga at the Bonita Sunnyside County Library

Mondays weekly 11:00-11:55 AM

Work on your flexibility and balance with gentle yoga suitable for adults of all ages.
  • Chair are provided; bring any yoga props (blocks, straps, blanket) that you might need.
  • Bring water/hydration. 
  • Wear tie shoes if you do not plan on removing your shoes; flip flops or open back shoes are not secure enough for our practice.
