Free Live Online Chair Yoga for Active Adults

Gentle Chair Yoga classes streaming three days a week (M W F) from 11:00-11:55 AM PST.

You will need a link and password to join. Download this waiver. Either print it and sign, then take a picture, or digitally sign the PDF. Then send the waiver (or agree to the terms) and a little bit about your interest in our class to to as your registration. Classes are free (donations are accepted but never required), and the link to join is the same for every class.

Modifications are offered to increase and decrease intensity as requested. We aim for a good stretch, a bit of a workout, and some valuable mind-quiet time, all to help reinforce that ever important connection between your body and your mind.

• These classes are done in chairs. Have your chair on a non-slip surface.
• Please log in by 10:55 AM to give yourself a few minutes to set up your screen and get situated.
• We will start promptly at 11:00 AM.
• I'll put attendees on mute once the class officially starts (there is a chat function by which you can ask questions).
• If you are unable to join by 11:00 AM, I do a hydration break at about 15 to 20 minutes in, and will admit late-comers at that time.

As in all of our classes, participate at your appropriate level: breathe, hydrate, stay safe! Use whatever props you need to support yourself, and have water nearby. You do not have to have your video enabled (I don't have to see you, you just probably want to see me).

Free In-Person Community Yoga Classes - postponed

    • Due to health concerns in California and in accordance with state, county and local recommendations, all in-person community yoga classes are put on hold effective March 13, 2020 until further notice. I apologize for the inconvenience but your health and safety is of the utmost importance.
I offer six (6) senior-accessible, chair-based, yoga classes in East County. These classes are free for the general public and are supported by the locations, Silver Sneakers™️ and Silver&Fit™️ programs. Attendees do not have to belong to these programs to attend, and no payment is required to join the class. Donations are accepted but never required. Classes are open for new members at any time; no pre-registration is required.

These classes are open to all ages, all levels. They classes are gentle, combining both chair and standing postures to provide what the class needs on any given day. Participants can opt to bring their own mat (chairs are provided), or even choose to stay seated for the entire class. Modifications are offered to increase and decrease intensity as requested. We aim for a good stretch, a bit of a workout, and some valuable mind-quiet time, all to help reinforce that ever important connection between your body and your mind.

Each class includes breathing practices (pranayama), postures (asana) rooted in functional movement, yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology information, and of course relaxation (savasana) and meditation. They incorporate flexibility exercises that can improve posture, increase the range of motion around joints, and improve agility and gait. Muscular strength exercises can slow the cellular aging process, and improve muscle mass to increase an overall sense of vitality and improve balance and coordination.

Check the ONLINE calendar for updates and changes to be sure the class is meeting that week - esp. around holiday times. If there is no class listed on the live schedule (where there is usually a class) there is probably a scheduled class cancellation - you can always email me or call the site to verify. Also check the Library calendars for more information:

Your presence in class and signing of the waiver is acknowledges your agreement to abide by all Class Guidelines and County Library Code of Conduct

    General Conduct Guidelines:
    • Please try to arrive at least five minutes before class to ensure you have time to sign in and minimize disturbance of the class. I am a big proponent of "better late than never" esp. for the treat of a yoga class, but this is very important at our La Mesa library where we have a door attendant only until class starts at 8:30.
    • If you arrive late, please quietly enter and sit in the closest seat to the entrance to minimize any disturbance.
    • When arriving late, please sign in AFTER class rather than when you arrive.
    • If you must leave class early, please pack up quietly and do so before final meditation.
    • Please do not bring large bags/purses, etc. to class. The yoga space does not accommodate bulky personal items (walking assistance tools are always allowed). Store items against walls unless they fit directly under your chair.
    • Cells phone must be off during class. If there is an emergency requiring your phone be on, it must be on vibrate only, and you must leave class to answer. Phone cannot be left to "ring out."
    • Please treat all facility staff courteously. It is a privilege to utilize their space.
    • Please treat one another courteously. We are yogis, and adults.
    • Please do not wear perfumed items to class. This includes soaps, lotions, hair products, etc.
    • Please use appropriate hygiene (body, hair, oral, foot).
